The Constant Strain Continuum Element





The problem of local and global co-ordinates does not exist with continuum elements as the x and y directions are chosen to correspond to the global x and y directions.

The structural stiffness matix may hence be assembled by noting the static equivalence of:

Sum of internal x direction forces acting on node i = the external x direction force on node i.

Similarly:

Sum of internal y direction forces acting on node i = the external y direction force on node i.
